Effective 1st October 2008 (updated 28th December 2009)
FamilyDetective.co.uk is a genealogy research company. We provide a genealogical research service to customers wishing to trace their ancestry.
We make no charge for the initial customer enquiry. When we receive an enquiry, we will contact the customer to gain as much information as possible to allow us to perform an initial genealogical search. This initial search is to determine whether we are able to successfully provide further research services.
If we are unable to help, we will inform the customer as soon as possible. There is no charge for this initial research.
If we are successful in our initial research, we will inform the customer and request a deposit of £50, £100 or £150 (depending on the chosen package) to allow us to continue our research. No further research will be carried out until the deposit is received.
Once a deposit is received, we will continue our research according to the number of hours requested by the customer, or hours specified in the research package chosen by the customer. We will communicate regularly with the customer via email or telephone to inform them of our progress.
Completion of Research, Final Payment and Delivery Details
Once all research has been completed, documentation will be produced in accordance with the particular requests of the customer or the chosen research package. The customer will be informed when the documentation is ready for dispatch and a request for final payment will be issued. Once final payment is received, the documentation will be dispatched via recorded delivery to the customer's address. This will be dispatched within 5 business days of receiving final payment. All documentation remains the property of FamilyDetective.co.uk until final payment is received.
Errors and Omissions
It is our intention to produce the very highest quality research, and to present the customer with a product that they are proud to own. As our work is, by very nature, research into past lives, locations,
experiences and occurrences, it is possible that errors or omissions may
occur in our work. We are happy to correct typographical errors that are identified in good time and which have occurred due to errors on our part.
Every effort is made to ensure that the information provided by Family Detective is correct, however information provided by clients is not checked for accuracy (unless we have been specifically asked to do so as part of our research) and therefore we cannot be held responsible for errors or omissions that originate from this information.
As part of our research work, we send information to customers in draft form for checking and validation. Once this has been accepted by the customer, we cannot be held responsible for errors or omissions that have not been identified.
Our research is carried out using the most comprehensive and up-to-date methods currently available and is completed in good faith. If errors or omissions are discovered after the work has been submitted to the customer, due to additional research being carried out by a 3rd party, we cannot be held responsible for those errors or omissions.
If errors or omissions are discovered and found to be the result of misinformation provided by the customer, we are happy to arrange for reprinting of effected documents for an additional fee.
Terminating the Research Contract
If the customer wishes to terminate the research contract, they must inform FamilyDetective.co.uk via email (
) or phone (020 3137 1596). Family Detective will calculate the amount of work carried out prior to cancellation, and will bill the customer at a rate of £25 per hour, up to the package price ordered. All research work carried out will remain the property of FamilyDetective.co.uk until payment is received, when the work will be passed to the customer.
Refund of Payments Made
The deposit is non-refundable. The final payment is made at the completion of the research work and therefore considered payment for services rendered. This payment is also non-refundable.
